DIAL IN SOUNDS is pure BRANDTSON...loud, tight and melodic. Unquestionably their finest release to date, it pushes the bands' combination of tone, vocal harmony and songwriting to its maximum potential. On this round, you'll hear ten beautifully structured songs teeming with lush, full, hypnotizing sound. The guitars carry BRANDTSON's signature aggression, blasting forth with a ruthless barrage of distortion. But the real focus here is maturity and introspection rather than angst. Like a front row seat at a broken hearts club meeting, you'll soon be belting out the lyrics and pounding your fists in like company. Impeccably produced and simply tighter than ever, BRANDTSON has taken another bold step in refining their already near flawless intermingling of hook-laden pop and passionate post-hardcore. Welcome to the big leagues.
The band's TRYING TO FIGURE EACH OTHER OUT ep is a triumph of a short player, filled with songs that have immediate appeal but enough complexity for the long haul. The introspective, revealing lyrics leave you with plenty to ponder as crushing guitars lay down fierce, power ballad riffs. BRANDTSON has taken what they know best, finessed it, tightened it up and locked it down with astounding results. The harmonized vocal rounds are absolutely infectious, bringing you up and down in a swirl of emotion. This remarkable set of six songs is simply sterling...and the pristine Ed Rose production quality is second to none. The band far surpassed anyone's expectations with TRYING...and then some. BRANDTSON is like a bullet...when they're dead on, their combination of chiming guitars and dual vocals are show stoppers with your heart and soul.
BRANDTSON upped the ante with their second full-length FALLEN STAR COLLECTION...and in no small way. Their style of darkly passionate, emotive rock is delivered with a new fire and chemistry ignited by spending months together on the road just prior to recording. Surging with vocal harmonies that weave around aggressive guitar tracks, this sophomore release offers a tight collection of melodic rock songs, outright pop and powerful new ballads with diary-honest, often spiritual lyrics as the rule. We'll leave the title up to your own interpretation...think a little. From the initial riff of "As You Wish" you'll be hanging on for each note through the anthemic plea of "New Favorite Pastime" which closes the record. "Post-hardcore" is an accurate description as any with two of the band members, Myk Porter and Matt Traxler, rising from the ashes of the hardcore scene to BRANDTSON's greater glories. They haven't looked back since.
BRANDTSON originally staked its claim on their dark, melodic and hauntingly beautiful style with their debut LETTERBOX. Somber yet spirited rhythms with personal lyrics about life's struggles, LETTERBOX explodes with the raging intensity of "Round 13," explores the reaches of thick, driving, emotional guitar rock with "Blindspot," "Words for You" and "Nineveh" and numbs the senses with "Still Life," "Cloudless and "January." Seemingly doubled-up harmonies are actually both Myk and drummer Jared Jolley singing together. LETTERBOX received critical praise from all sides of the media spectrum and "Blindspot" reached top ten status on the commercial specialty radio charts - unheard of at the time for an indie rock band. They also played on the '98 WARPED Tour. You'll understand why. Once hooked, LETTERBOX is infectious and hard to put down.
Cleveland, Ohio's BRANDTSON (pronounced "Brant-son", not "Brand-ston") is Myk Porter (vocal, guitar), Jared Jolley (vocal, drums), Matt Traxler (guitar) and John Sayre (bass). DIAL IN SOUNDS and TRYING were both recorded by Ed Rose (The Appleseed Cast, Coalesce, Get Up Kids, Casket Lottery) at Red House Recording in Eudora, KS. FALLEN STAR COLLECTION was recorded at Private Studios in Urbana, IL and was engineered by Brendan Gamble (Planes Mistaken For Stars, American Football). LETTERBOX was recorded by BRANDTSON and Bill Korecky at Mars in Cleveland, OH. BRANDTSON also appears on Deep Elm's "A Million Miles Away: The Emo Diaries, Chapter Two" with an unreleased song "Holly Park."
BRANDTSON's new "Death & Taxes" EP will be released in early 2003. It will first be available from the band at all dates on the TOO YOUNG TO DIE tour that begins on March 14.
